jeez, what a day!!! this

jeez, what a day!!! this weather has been a real bitch. here’s the short version of the story so far..

first, the drive to work was scary. it took almost 2 hours to get here, and i almost slid into a semi. there were cars in the ditch all along the road. when i finally went down the road that goes to the office, the road was blocked by a stuck semi. this was the only path to work, so i called the boss. he said just to stop at the diner at the end of the road and relax a bit. a few minutes after doing just that, eric (the other employee) shows up. apparently he was late too. so far things are alright – at least we enjoyed a relaxing breakfast before going to work.

got to work around 9:30am. around 11:30, a wireless customer calls to say they are having problems. i have to drive over to the tower and reset the radio. a good part of 795 is still very icey and nasty. the way there went ok, but on the way back i slid to the right just a bit. unfortunately after the side of the road is a very angled drop in the ground — just enough to keep me stuck. i try to get out, but just keep making things worse. i give up and call work. the company owns a big ford truck, so i asked them to come give me a tug and pull me out.

so i’m sitting there, enjoying the warmth of my running car and watching the traffic go by. all of a sudden some car goes -flying- into an 8 or so foot deep ditch, completely sideways. i jump out of the car and run across the street — it was only about 30-40 feet away. 2 other guys stopped and help the guy out of his car. i call 911 to get someone out there, and the guy collapses to the ground. things get pretty messy at this point — the ems shows up, traffic is backed up, and i’m right in the middle of the whole mess. so the guy that was on his way to help me shows up, but obviously can’t do much. he suggests that since several tow trucks have already shown up, i ask one of them to help out. luckily an aaa truck was on hand. after more waiting, i was towed out. but, i’m now in the middle of a big mess and can’t leave. i wait around even more for things to clear up. all in all, it was 2 1/2 or so hours for what is generally a 10 minute trip.

but, i’m back, i’m safe, and i’m warm. for now. i still have the drive home tonight.

  1. what a mess! 🙁

we don’t have any snow in downtown cleveland – just wet roads and rain and nasty winds… but my parents’ place, where we’re going tonight, supposedly has quite a bit of snow 😐

  2. i was on i75 at 4:00a this morning, the back end broke loose, went skidding across three lanes, put the back of the vic into the jersey barrier in the center. it’s still driveable but it’s not making me happy. and i didn’t get cited, i was doing 45 when it happened.

  3. you need to buy a truck and learn how to drive it in 4 wheel mode :p

glad you’re ok though. it was nasty as hell east side of cleveland where i was. no accidents thank god. i choose to drive on streets which slowed me down, but was much safer.

  4. i was supposed to be living in vegas right now!!! it’s in the mid 80’s!!! ive got a house out there i’ve never slept in, probably never will. and now i’m going to make my life in new jersey, more snow…more money though…
