having lived in the port clinton / lake erie area for a large portion of my life, i am aware of a private club called rattlesnake island. while i’ve heard plenty of stories and tales, the central (and verifiable) theme is that the island wholly contains an exclusive and extravagant club with about 50 members.
being bored this am, i started poking around at wikipedia to look up entries about the port clinton/ottawa county area. this lead me to the entry on rattlesnake.
read through the history. at some point late last year, someone edited the article to suggest the island had military and other ties. while amusing in itself, its further amusing that a lawfirm has since requested the removal of the content and complete removal of the entire history of the article.
i found it amusing enough to write about.
I read the article this morning.
I went back to read it this afternoon and it was toast.
The old article used to mention a “Masonic Style” meeting room, secret meetings by the first President Bush with members of the Saudi Royal family before the first gulf war there, and a secret tunnel connecting the island to the mainland via the old gypsum mines.
It was very good and very long… not that crap there now.

You know ive heard many stories of these armed security guards, and ive been on the island, and have yet to see them, Im not saying that they arent there, i just havent seen any of them. Ohh and the myths of capone running booze there,though its possiable, Middle island would be a better stop off point, as it is the southernmost island in the canadian waters that and if you fly over it you can see some secondary trees in a strip, where there used to be a airstrip at one time… my two cents.
