for those who are not click-things happy, it’s a guy who made a 4 meg striped raid array out of floppies.

i’m thinking of making an array of old mp3 players w/ 128 meg chips… i have 2 or 3 I think… and os/x sees them as usb drives.
I always wanted to boot and run an os off of a zip 100 disk… you could raid a bunch of them together… i think an array of flash media would be considerably faster than standard IDE drives. ATA133 has been around for a while but no hard drive can even approach that throughput. no seek delays or rotation speed issues.
only problem w/ the flash is the life. CF can only be writen/cleared so many times before its dead.

THAT IS TOO FUCKING COOL. *KICKS SELF FOR NOT FATHERING SUCH IDEA* YOU KNOW, HAD USB BEEN AROUND IN THE *OLDEN* DAYS, THIS IDEA WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN A PRACTICAL WAY OF TRANSFERRING FILES OVER 1.44MB. I REMEMBER HAVING TO ZIP FILES, USE CUTTER22 TO CUT THE ZIP, COPY THE ZIPS TO FLOPPIES, COPY THE ZIPS OFF OF THE FLOPPIES, RESTITCH THE FILES TOGETHER, AND FINALLY UNZIP JUST TO TRANSFER A 5 FILE.
