a) he must not have searched ebay or googled for ipod replacement batteries.
b) mine is older than that (like — it’s the original 5 gig model) and it still holds a charge for like 6 or 7 hours of play.
c) i do think, however, that the apple support guy (assuming its a real call) could have handled it better. and i do think the battery should be user serviceable.

i did find some replacement batteries as well, usually in the neighborhood of $60
