score one for the good guys!

thanks to advice given here, i decided to report verizon to the better business bureau after i paid the collections agency. today, i received a call from verizon. after giving me the same ole’ runaround about how my contract with them gave them rights to my first-born child, they offered to refund $95 of the $175 i paid to collections. they are also contacting the credit reporting agency to remove any past-due marks that were placed there by them or the collections agency.

while this is not a full refund, and i may have been able to get more, i’m happy that they are refunding a good portion of it all. they did apologise for sending me to collections while the account was pending internal review.

all in all it’s more than i expected to receive from them.

  1. That’s when you ask, in a calm manner and not ranting: “Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. When will I be receiving the remainder of my refund?” 🙂

    Either way though, it’s nice to know the consumer can still occasionally kick butt.
