cable guy…

it may come as a surprise to many of you that a co-owner of a wireless isp is waiting for the cable company to come and install broadband…

well, it’s difficult to admin a wireless network from home if ones own wireless connection is flaky when there are leaves on the trees or whenever the changing weather causes tropo, bringing in interference from all over. i finally decided that it’s not likely to ever be fixed, and thus called adelphia.

3 megs down, 384k up, $26/mo for 6 months. then it’s $50. the down side – i go from having my own /28 routed to my house to having a single dynamic ip. i can tunnel the /28 in, but it’ll be slower than .. man, i never thought i’d have such a difficult time with a “slower than” analogy. at least services like dyndns.org exist, and open source deals like m0n0wall handle ipsec without statics quite nicely.

of course the only available appointment was an “all day” one, which means anytime between 8am and 5pm. since i took the day off, i’m certain it will be close to 5. unless, of course, i leave for a few minutes — then he’ll show up while i’m out.
