i’ve often found myself to not be up on current events. i rarely watch the news, and other than slashdot, don’t pay much attention to the world.

last night i was hanging out with some friends at their house. after watching lone gunmen with them, we were talking and waiting for my dmb cd to finish burning.

anyway, the news came on afterwords. i caught three stories — the first was of a suicide, some guy ran his car into the river. the next was about a lady who woke up to find an odd man in her house, who proceeded to rape her, kidnap her, and rape her again. the third was about a girl who apparently found her dog in a dumpster shot to death.

it’s damn hard to keep any positivity flowing through me when my glimpse of the world offers nothing more than a view of how horrible people really are, and how much misery there is in this world.

  1. i refuse to watch the news for the very same reason. i think the comic strip hi and lois said it best.

mom: you can’t watch that show! it’s too violent!
chip: but mom, it’s the news!
mom: too bad! reality is rated ‘r’.

it is a sad truth that i don’t think anyone is prepared for. it’s one thing to be aware of it, but it is quite another to let it permiate your being. i know you matt. you’re stronger than that. you’ve got plenty of good things going for you. i don’t need to go into them either, since most of your other friends have done so already.

i know it sounds so easy to just say “chin up. everything will be fine,” but it is a pain in the butt. i’m certain you will manage though.
