how was my weekend? it

how was my weekend? it was just peachy.

my 2610 came in, but the catalyst 1924xl isn’t here yet, so i’m guessing that’s why i couldn’t set encap isl on any subinterfaces. i’m guessing the 2610 needs to be plugged into a vlan trunk port on a switch before it lets you do that.

there was a big storm in town this weekend, knocking power out at do2 headquarters (aka dad’s barn) for an unknown length of time. unfortunately we found that our big ass ~200 pound 3kva constant-duty ups didn’t last more than a few minutes. so we’re taking the batteries out and hooking up an external bank of ten car batteries.

saturday evening/night, shanon and myself trekked to cedar point. it was surprisingly warm, and although a bit crowded, most of the people were enjoying the cheezy halloween stuff while we rode the raptor and magnum several times. unfortunately the millenium line was still longer than we felt like waiting. while there, i theorized that all two guys like us need to do to attract any cuties that walked by was say ‘ayyyyyy’ (think canadian only stressing the first syllable). we tested this, and although it seemed promising at first, it ultimately failed.

other than that, my weekend was mostly wireless. we didn’t make it over to the bay to finish our tower there, but we did get measurements for our new server room, and i did a security audit of the county’s video system. and, of course, i played with my new router — not the kind that puts grooves in wood, made by cisco — not the one that delivers food.

  1. i was at cedar point about 2 weekends ago, staying at the breakaway hotel, i think. no doubt, matt ….. there were hotties from dodgeem to power tower to mean streak. and aside from a holler, you can always try your hands at those cheesy games where you try to win a small stuffed animal, then upgrade it to a bigger stuffed animal, and then to an even bigger stuffed animal …..

it’s a never, ending endeavour, because the game would have sucked all your money by then. 🙂

  2. i recommend marine trolling batteries. auto batteries have lead screens for quick point discharge, trolling batteries have solid plates and last longer.

  3. if they are 24 volt, we just cut the number in half, or wire them different. the ups takes 120vdc, so we can combine just about any number of batteries to get that, as long as the total volts of each adds up to at least 120 volts.

  4. ahhhhhhhhh…i’m thinking small. all the ups’s i have are only 12 volt, meaning i can’t use 24’s in mine 🙁

too bad too…kevin has a spare aircraft battery w/ my name on it 😉

  5. trolling batteries are available in 12vdc. mostly used in motorhomes. i would kill for an aircraft battery! i have the perfect use for one!

  6. i assure you, it was quite funny!

our second or third time waiting in line for the raptor, there were two hotties in front of us. when we got to the stairs, the one girl kept moving her purse around back to cover her butt.
